Aim: Obesity is a major health problem causing major illnesses\udand diseases. In this study, we aimed to differentiate type 2\uddiabetic normal, overweight and obese people to investigate\udthe relationship of obesity with C-reactive protein (Hs-CRP), an\udinflammatory identifier.\udMethods: The study was conducted on a total of 129 patients (64\udfemale, 65 male) with type 2 diabetes mellitus between May 2010\udand September 2010. Study consisted of three groups, classified\udaccording to body mass; 16 normal weight, 55 overweight and\ud58 obese patient. Hs-CRP levels were measured by immunoassay\udchemiluminescence. All data were statistically analyzed.\udResults: A significant difference in hs-CRP levels was determined\udbetween the groups (p<0.05). Hs-CRP levels in subjects with\udnormal body weight were found to be significantly lower than\udin obese ones (p<0.05). There was no significant difference in\udage, cholesterol parameters and HbA1c between the groups.\udNo significant difference was observed in BMI between genders\ud(p<0.05). Based on BMI, the rate of obese women was considerably\udhigher than the rate of overweight and normal women (p<0.05).\udSimilarly, the rate of overweight and normal men was significantly\udhigher than the rate of obese men (p<0.05).\udConclusion: Hs-CRP levels in people with normal body weight\udwere confirmed to be significantly lower than those in obese\udpeople (p<0.05). Hs-CRP levels were observed to be increased with\udweight gain. (The Medical Bulletin of Haseki 2013; 51: 120-4
