The stroke is defined as a clinical sign of quick developing of focal disturbance of cerebral function, of presumed vascular origin with more than 24 hours of duration. The most common dysfunction presented is the hemiparesis, which results in limitations in daily activities of the individual, due to motor debility on one side of the body. Objective. This study aimed to determine the effects of the Constraintinduced Movement Therapy (CIMT) in the recovery of upper limb function of the hemiparetic individual after stroke. Method. It was a literature review study. Published articles in the LILACS, SciELO, PubMed and PEdro database were used, in Portuguese and English languages. Results. It was selected 28 papers. Conclusion. The studies demonstrated great effectiveness of CIMT in improvement of the "learned non-use", quality and quantity of movement of the paretic upper limb
