Johannes Coccejus and the Principles of Exegesis of Isaiah by Campegius Vitringa and the Cape A survey is given of the work of Vitringa (16581722) and Coccejus (16031668) especially in the Old Testament field. Both scholars laid emphasis on the necessity of grammatical study and to try and understand what is written. Coccejus works out a system of interpretation of Scripture by accepting that God's revelation was given in different covenants of a progressive nature.
