Metaphorical elements in the use of forensic language in the Gospel according to John The metaphorical nature of the forensic material in the Gospel of John, leads to the conclusion that more than one courtcase is actually implied. Parallel to the earthly courtcase of Jesus, a spiritual courtcase, where the roles are reversed, is taking place. From these two courtcases, a third one (also spiritual) develops. In this third courtcase, the real reader has to make a decision - for Jesus or against Jesus?
