The complex status of medicine as science/knowledge and art/activity is discussed by means of the Greek concepts of phrónesis (prudence), métis (cunning) and téchne (skill). Moreover, we argue that medicine, as a practical activity but also as a form of knowledge, cannot but operate in a net of values and human relations.
