The extraordinary magistracy of the interregnum is attested by inscriptions from some communities of Roman Italy: Beneventum, Ostia, Fundi, Formiae and Cumae. The A. analyses all the available evidence in order to detect the origins and functions of the local interreges and their relationship with the Roman interrex.
