An elderly, diabetic male, with severe sepsis, swiftly treated with antibiotics that were efficacious in vitro against the E. Coli isolated in his blood, rapidly slides into multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and dies of septic shock after a month in intensive care, despite receiving appropriate pain relief and aetiopathogenetic therapy.
