A high-throughput method was applied in small and complex environmental samples for targeting multiple organic fractions (polar, nonpolar). The analytical method consists of a single-step lipid extraction and purification procedure (accelerated solvent extraction [ASE] system) coupled with a single-run step using gas chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry, operated in multiple reaction monitoring mode (GC/MS/MS/MRM). Successful application of this method is summarized for multiple chemical groups (aliphatics, terpanes, steranes, triaromatic steroids, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and oxidation products).
