Images coupled to graphic design have an important role in the feminine press. Similarly, the manner graphics and illustrations may question gender roles, especially those related to marriage, salient in mid-20th century Brazil and which disrupt the then dominant model. Procedures also collaborate for the spreading of youth images. Illustrations and layouts of the graphic designer Alceu Penna for the feminine sections of A Cigarra (O Marido de Madame, Moda, Beleza and Mocinha) between 1947 and 1955 are investigated, precisely at the apex of its popularity
