Open AccessO artigo aborda a constituição e as formas de ação adotadas pelo Instituto de Estudos Econômicos e Sociais (IPES), grupo de pressão financiado por empresas, de relevante participação na crise do regime populista e no decorrer do governo autoritário instaurado no Brasil após 1964, cujos membros mais destacados chegaram à condução econômica do país, ocupando postos governamentais e outros cargos relevantes. Entidade que pode ser considerada paradigma de uma nova matriz de relação entre o Estado, as corporações empresariais e os técnicos vinculados fundamentalmente à área econômica, atuando como ponte para desenhar e pôr em prática, seja de forma direta ou indireta, políticas de transformações profundas na estrutura econômica, afastando-a dos modelos desenvolvimentistas para aproximála, cada vez mais, dos moldes liberais.
The article discusses the constitution and forms of action adopted by the Institute for Economic and Social Research (IPES), a pressure group financed by businesses, and which had a relevant participation in the crisis of the populist regime and throughout the authoritarian government implemented in Brazil after 1964, whose most renowned members took the economic reins of the country, filling government positions and other relevant offices. It was an entity that can be considered the paradigm of a relationship matrix with the State, business corporations and the technical experts linked primarily with the economic sector, acting as a conduit to design and put into practice – whether directly or indirectly – policies of profound transformation in the economic structure, distancing it from the developmental models in order to bring it ever closer to the liberal moulds.
