A ética puritana, a educação, a ciência e a tecnologia na Inglaterra do século XVII

O presente artigo tem por objetivo esboçar alguns aspectos da sociologia cultural influenciada pela ética puritana na comunidade científica e a sua contribuição para o progresso científico e tecnológico na economia inglesa do século XVII. Os estudos realizados por Merton relacionam o puritanismo e a ciência e indicam que a ética religiosa foi, progressivamente, convertendo-se em valores favoráveis à ciência.This paper aims at outlining some aspects of the cultural sociology on the influence of the puritan ethics in the scientific community, and its contribution to the scientific and technological progress on the English economy of the 17th century. Studies by Merton, which relate Puritanism with science, show that the religious ethics was progressively being converted to favorable values to science
