When the French Landscape Schools go network: setting the scientific, professional and pedagogic stakes

In France most landscape managers are trained in five public institutions of higher education, whose responsibilities lie in three different departments. Since they also deliver two distinct diplomas, these bodies, which might be referred to as “ landscape schools ”, have for some years sought to improve their cooperation, notably on contents and didactics. The move is supported by the Department of Environment, Sustainable Development and Development (whose acronym in French is MEDDE), as a component of its national policy in favour of landscapes. The resultant cooperation and improved understanding between the five schools.

Cinq établissements supérieurs publics contribuent principalement à la formation des cadres paysagistes en France. Sous trois tutelles ministérielles différentes et délivrant deux diplômes différents, ces « écoles du paysage » cherchent depuis quelques années à mieux coopérer sur un plan pédagogique et scientifique. Encouragées par le ministère de l’Écologie, du développement durable et de l’énergie (MEDDE) qui appuie cette dynamique dans le cadre de sa politique nationale en faveur des paysages, ces écoles apprennent à mieux se connaître et à travailler ensemble pour répondre aux enjeux posés aux formations de paysagistes.
