Hegemonic masculinity through the prism of age. What entertainement spaces frequented by 9-13 years old tell us about masculinities of advanced capitalism

International audienceThis article intends to revisit the notion of hegemony, increasingly used in the analysis of masculinity (Raewyn Connell). By approaching it from the standpoint of the body practices that are valued in entertainment spaces, our approach also takes into account age as a social construct. We particularly studied the end of childhood, the beginning of the time during which bodies are transformed and forced into the numerous classifications (of sex, sexuality, age) with which they have been associated since the XVIIIth century. This is an analysis of the devices of new assignments of sex and age unfolding in entertainment spaces, but also, the forms of subjectification children demonstrate, which point out important changes both in the nature of the standards of hegemonic masculinity and in the « fractures of power » across whom it fans out.Cet article entend opérer un retour sur la notion d’hégémonie, progressivement mise au service de l’analyse des masculinités (Raewyn Connell). En l’abordant sous l’angle des pratiques corporelles qui sont valorisées dans des espaces d’animation, notre démarche tient également compte de l’âge comme construit social. Nous avons tout particulièrement travaillé sur la sortie de l’enfance qui ouvre un temps durant lequel les corps se transforment et bousculent les multiples classements (de sexe, de sexualité, d’âge) qui y ont été arrimés depuis le XVIIIème siècle. L’analyse des dispositifs de réassignation de sexe et d’âge déployés dans les espaces d’animation, mais aussi, des formes de subjectivation dont les enfants font preuve, montre d’importants changements tant dans la nature des standards de la masculinité hégémonique que dans les « mailles du pouvoir » à travers lesquelles elle se déploie
