The new landscape narrative

International audienceThe death of landscape has been heralded some time ago; and yet, for at least the past twenty years, we have witnessed its significant return in planning practice. Indeed, there is a consensus aiming to turn landscape into a pertinent object of the urban project; landscape is a crucial element both in that it can guarantee the coherence of a project, framing it within the larger planning scale (green infrastructure, blue infrastructure...) and in that it mediates between distinct urban institutions or structures (nature, organisation, technical networks, etc.). Just as much an analysis method than a mediation and an argumentation modality or, finally, an execution modality of the urban project, the landscape aims to extension. But where is the landscape when the landscape is everywhere? Are not the site, the place, the ambience, the atmosphere, the environment often what we are speaking about when we speak about landscape? It is exactly this inflation of landscape that we wished to question according to three research axes: the sensitive configurations, the methodological devices, the urban planning tools.En dépit de sa mort annoncée, le paysage opère, depuis un peu plus de 20 ans, un retour dans la pratique aménagiste. Il existe désormais un consensus pour faire du paysage un objet pertinent de la conduite de projet urbain, notamment en ce qu'il est un élément susceptible d'en assurer la cohérence en l'inscrivant dans la grande échelle aménagiste (trame verte, trame bleue...) et un élément de médiation entre les différents ordres qui instituent l'urbain (nature, organisation, systèmes techniques, etc.). Tout autant une méthode d'analyse qu'une médiation et une modalité d'argumentation ou enfin une modalité d'exécution du projet urbain, le domaine paysager tend à l'extension. Mais où est le paysage quand le paysage est partout ? Le site, le lieu, l'ambiance, l'atmosphère, l'environnement ne sont-ils pas souvent ce dont on est en train de parler quand on parle de paysage ? C'est précisément cette inflation du domaine du paysage que nous avons souhaité interroger au gré de trois axes : celui des configurations sensibles, celui des dispositifs méthodologiques, celui des outils d'urbanisme
