Transformations et perspectives de l’anthropologie de la santé : un regard épistémologique

Commentant les nouveaux objets et les perspectives de l’anthropologie de la santé, l’auteur souligne que cette appellation, à la fois plus large que l’anthropologie médicale et décentrée par rapport à elle, témoigne d’une nouvelle conjoncture. Cette conjoncture est marquée par l’importance grandissante donnée au droit à la santé dans toute l’acception du terme, impliquant des composantes socioculturelles variables d’une région à l’autre. L’auteur développe les conséquences d’une telle orientation sur la perception de la vérité en biomédecine et le statut comparé des différentes médecines. Commenting on the new objects and the perspectives opened to the anthropology of health, the author analyses the historical context of the terminology shift. The appellation « anthropology of health » is more comprehensive than medical anthropology and its focus is also different. This shift takes place in a context marked by the increasing emphasis on a global « right to health », including socio-cultural components. The author scrutinizes its consequences on the epistemological status of medical truths and the changing relationship between biomedicine and the “other” medicines, often called “alternative” or better “complementary”
