This paper aims to show the importance of lexicography in the Centro de Estudios Históricos that was created in 1910. A first report of the conservation of lexical material contained in the files is given, as well as an historical and critical description of the archive. In particular, it traces the history of the medieval glossary directed by Américo Castro and reflects on the reasons it was never published
