The Arabic and sometimes Hebrew phrases that occur in a number of passages of the Hispanic Romance literatures, above all in the Middle Ages, have been repeatedly surveyed by contemporary scholars in more or less succesful attempts at deciphering them. Our aim in this paper is to revise the interpretations offered heretofore in the light of recent progreses in the fields of Andalusi Arabic and even Andalusi Romance spoken simultaneously with Arabic by all the inhabitants of Alandalus, regardless of their faith, although in steady decline until its total extincition in the 12th century. In this manner we believe to have contributed to the explanation of some very controversial passages of the Medieval Castilian, Galician-Portuguese and Catalan literatures
