The water has a important symbolic value in numerous religious complexes, but when it has, in addition, a dark coloration, it constitutes a special link with the underground world. The present article affects in the relation among sanctuaries dedicated to infernal divinities and «black rivers», and, at the same time, analyzes Endovellicus’ specific case and his center of worship of São Miguel da Mota (Portugal)
