The researchs that Francisco de Santiago Palomares achieved at the XVIII th century about the Toledo´s swordsmiths had been, and they are still, the main documentaly reference about this subject. In this paper we try to show a new view of the author and the period when he made his works in order to understand it much better and know the uncertain fiability regard to the news wich he gave about the Toledo´s swordsmiths.
Los trabajos que Francisco de Santiago Palomares realizó en el siglo XVIII sobre los espaderos toledanos han sido, y continúan siendo, la principal referencia documental sobre el tema. Este artículo pretende dar una visión del autor y contextualizar su obra para poder entenderla mejor, y comprender la fiabilidad de muchas de las noticias que aporta sobre los espaderos y las marcas toledanas
