It seems that the motif of the πότνια-πάρεδρος relation in the myth of a totally anthropologically conceived hero was transferred by the projection of subconscious incest-wishes. As neurotics could find themselves subconsciously in the figure of Oedipus, therefore also neurotic symptoms have been ascribed to this hero
