It is a common. opinion among Latin grammarians that prepositions often have a uis intentiua. Modern grammarians, however, only admit this value in those composita with per- and prae-. The author of this paper maintains that according to ancient Latin theories, besides per and prae there were other prepositions with intensive value in composition. \udAn analogous phenomenon can be traced in Greek and other Indo-European languages. He also tries to make clear the uniqueness of these forms
