Of critical importance is the publication of the previously unreleased manuscript by M. J. de Larra, El Rapto, (1832), the first opera ever written in the history of Spanish lyric theater (music by the maestro Genoves). This opera is now published in its entirety for the first time. A previous edition from 1991 contained some of the singing parts but not the spoken dialogue, which was also missing from the only manuscript known at the time located in the Biblioteca Histórica Municipal in Madrid. This edition also incorporates corrections to the original text as introduced by the author himself in handwritten notes and provides the critical elements necessary to compare it with the previously known edition. The study analyzes and assesses this significant work in the historic and dramatic context of its time
