Cervantes was not exempt from the influence exercised in society by the preachers of his time, especially in view of the social and ideological repercussions inherent in the genre of sacred oratory. In this article I study its presence in Cervantes, concretely in the Persiles. By means of an analysis of the examples of preaching registered in the novel, I demonstrate the author’s orthodoxy, as opposed to some recent critical studies that question it
