Autor prikazuje glavne odredbe Zakona o zapošljavanju koje se tiču materijalnog osiguranja nezaposlenih, aktivne politike u zapošljavanju i posredovanju pri zapošljavanju. Autor zatim predstavlja rezultate međunarodnih istraživanja i stručnih analiza navedenih aktivnosti i programa. Na osnovi međunarodnih iskustava autor iznosi preporuke za provedbu ili izmjenu Zakona o zapošljavanju.The article gives a brief presentation of the basic previsions of the newly-adopted Law on Employment, referring to the financial insurance of employees, an active employment policy and employment mediation. There is also an overview of international research and prefessional analyses of the effects of the activities and programmes mentioned. International experience suggests that remuneration for employees results in an increase in unemployment, that the programmes of an active employment policy do not have significant positive effects, and that employment mediation represents the most effective activity of employment services. Some recomendations are given regarding the change and the way in which the Law on Employment is realised. Some proposals are made to minimize the level and the duration of the remuneration for employees, to narrow and limit the programmes of an active employment policy and to increase the number of employees in the Employment Agency, who need to carry out employment mediation services
