The rapid development of renewable resources is seen around the world. This article provides recent statistics on the solar power sector worldwide and in Lithuania. It is known that the development of solar energy power plants has advanced significantly in recent years, and the total installed capacity continues to grow. The purpose of this article is to assess the impact upon the development of solar power plants of the progress in solar photovoltaic technologies and the applicable financing schemes intended to reduce the financial burden on the consumer when installing a solar power plant. The article analyzes the concept and classification of solar energy projects, provides an overview of trends worldwide and in Lithuania, and examines the change in the price of solar power plants. The influence of the mentioned factors on the development of solar power plants is evaluated using statistical data analysis and correlation regression analysis. After the analysis of statistical data, the forecast for the development of solar power plant projects in Lithuania in the coming years is made.
