Open AccessThe article describes the methods of calculating the width of book back. One of the calculation methods used in the printing house was tested. On the basis of the experimental data, the calculation formula is proposed. Due to negative results, the first formula was corrected adding a coefficient evaluating the thickness of the paper which enables to increase calculation accuracy and the results of calculation match with technological requirements. The corrected formula was tested using two methods concerning the measurements of paper thickness. The application of the calculation formula of the developed width of book back was approved experimentally on 72 backs of the book and can be recommended for use in printing houses.
