This work reviews the innovative and progressive methods at the macroscopic level in airspace research. The analysis shows the strong and weak points of such methods. Because of the implementation of functional airspace blocks (FAB), this area of airspace research is very important for the European region. Therefore, this study defines the main areas that should be taken into consideration in order to organize FABs in the most efficient way. The main purpose of the analysis is to form a basis for the experimental research in this area.
