This paper, based on conducted study results, clarifies how teachers measure the leadership competencies and their importance to work success, what leadership competencies are the priority and what competencies are missing in their own and school leader’s work. Also, what competencies they would like to develop and what ways and means they consider the most effective. It is shown that most teachers valuates the managerial skills and would like to develop the ability to motivate students, personal improvement and communication skills. The biggest difficulties, promoting teachers to develop their competencies, are limited school material and non-material opportunities to motivate employees, lack of time, carried out under the direct professional activity, absence of direct correlation between the managerial training and career (promotion)
