In 1982 the French Government initiated an international competition for Villette Park (Parc de La Villette) in Paris. 470 projects from 38 countries were submitted for the competion. One of them was created by the Lithuanians: Augis Gučas, Regimantas Pilkauskas, Robertas Statsėnas and Gediminas Budreika. The winner of the competition was a group of authors from the USA under the leadership of an architect Bernard Tshumi. The project was created according to a postmodernistic rather than traditional park conception providing for an active function as well as a complex urban form of the Park.
