The article examines the state and prospects of entrepreneurship development in small towns of the Sverdlovsk region on the basis of a number of empirical studies. It is noted that business in a small city operates in the general paradigm of the legal and socio-cultural conditions of the country, but at the same time has a number of specific features. The most difficult conditions are observed in small and medium-sized businesses, which are experiencing a number of problems (high taxes, difficulty in obtaining microloans, a decrease in the purchasing power of the population, etc.). The most promising areas of entrepreneurship development in a small city are highlighted (using the spatial advantages of small cities, agricultural and tourism business, centers for the development of new high-tech industries, resuscitation due to the movement of residents of large cities as the information and digital era unfolds).
