Guan Weming, a self-taught Sibe historian, was born into the Gūwargeya clanin 1938 in today’s Qapqal Sibe Autonomous County in the Xinjiang UyghurAutonomous Region of north-western China. He has devoted much of his lifeto searching for and studying Sibe family trees to be found in Xinjiang. Although the majority of the family trees in his collection are not original, hiscollection, which includes materials both in the Manchu/Sibe language andin Chinese, is a valuable source for research aiming to explore Sibe history andfamily trees. This study is intended to present Guan Wenming’s collection contained in 57 folders and to highlight its significance.
