Bacterial plaque is the dominant etiological factor inperiodontitis, furthermore it has been convincinglydemonstrated that gingivitis is most frequent and mostsevere in interproximal area. Tooth brushing isindispensable for maintaining oral hygiene. Howevertooth brushing alone is not sufficient in interproximalarea. Interdental aids provide auxiliary assistance. Lack ofuse of these may leads to interproximal caries andperiodontitis.
