This study presents a brief bibliometricoverview of large scientific literature data related toissues of energy systems research from 1970 to 2020 inthe Scopus database. The six periods depending ondifferent publication activity rates were analyzed toobserve the evolution of research topics of energysystems. VOSviewer software was used to constructscientific knowledge maps and to discover valuablemain topics for each period. Proposed visualization ofthe energy knowledge domain can be considered as anecessary step for a holistic understanding of complexdevelopment pathways towards the future sustainableenergy systems.
