The article, in the format of a brief excursion, examines biotechnologies from the standpoint of their highly technological status, as well as their impact on the further development of world society. The review is built in the perspective of considering the convergence of biotechnology in various spheres of human life. A brief historical background of the formation of biotechnology as a science and as a field of applied production capabilities is given.
