The international medical organizations have as a main concern the maternal mortality in matter of finding solutions to diminish it. The maternal mortality rate in Romania has been decreasing in the last years. Even so it remains at a high level compared to the average rate recorded in this geographical zone. If in the developing countries, including our country, maternal mortality is deternined by hemorrhage, infection and complications of abortion, in developed countries the main cause of maternal mortality is represented by the complications of pregnancy induced hypertension.
