The Indian agrarian society is transforming with socio-economic development and demand for livestock has been on the increase exponentially. The demand is expected to rise further with increase in population and purchasing power in the coming decades. Sheep livestock has a pivotal role in Jammu & Kashmir as a traditional source of income, energy, manure and fuel. Entrepreneurship in this sector is not taking effect despite institutional and government push. as the prospect entrepreneurs and traditional breeders face various challenges at the gass root level. The present study explores the challenges and opportunities with a generic view of the sector in Jammu and Kashmir. A primary data analysis was conducted on data collected via survey questionnaire from 100 respondents across various verticals of the trade. Frequency analysis indicated that the sector is a major livelihood source in the region and a great potential opportunity to organize a thriving business. However, enterprising in this sector isn’t free of challenges. The sector requires identification of challenges, and innovation to overcome them
