The present empirical study aims to provide a newconceptual framework for the regional tourism industry of the Province of Tungurahua-Ecuadorthat emerged from a combined application of stakeholder engagement andresearch-practice approaches. These preliminary outcomes from in-depth focusgroup assessments and surveys applied to tourism experts, industrypractitioners, government’s representatives, and tourists revealed that asynergic/collaborative work across tourism stakeholders have the potentials tocreate innovative touristic products and services, thus solving progressivelythe existing issues observed in the regional tourism, travel and hospitalitysectors. Resulting tailor-made tourism products, mainly based on advancedtechnology, may represent the first steps ofimprovements to be taken into consideration prior to evolving to thedevelopment and implementationof smart cities and smart tourism concepts in this region where tourismactivities are one of the most important revenue for the national and regionaltourism industry.
