Dinamika kehidupan manusia yang mencakup berbagai persoalan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari ditirukan dalam drama. Naskah drama Kereta Api Maut disusun oleh Achmad Toha berdasarkan kisah nyata peristiwa 23 November 1947 yang terkenal dengan sebutan Peristiwa Gerbong Maut Bondowoso, Jawa Timur. Masalah yang dibahas dalam artikel ini adalah unsur-unsur nasionalisme dan unsur tragedi yang terdapat dalam naskah Kereta Api Maut. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif analitik. Berdasarkan pembahasan, Kereta Api Maut merupakan salah satu contoh drama tragedi karena terdapat unsur-unsur yang menjadi ciri drama tragedi seperti yang diungkapkan Aristoteles dan Japi Tambajong, yakni adanya peristiwa atau adegan pilu di dalamnya. Kereta Api Maut merupakan cerminan keadaan bangsa Indonesia ketika negeri ini kembali diduduki oleh Belanda. Naskah drama ini dibuka dengan suara jiwa yang berisi semangat nasionalisme para pejuang. Mereka menuntut revolusi dan menentang kaum penjajah yang sangat sadis menyiksa rakyat Indonesia. The human life including various problems in everyday life are imitated in drama. The script of the drama Kereta Api Maut was composed by Achmad Toha based on the true story of the November 23, 1947 event known as “Gerbang Maut Bondowoso” in East Java. The problems discussed in this article are elements of nationalism and tragedy in Kereta Api Maut text. The method used in this research is descriptive analytical method. Based on the analysis, Kereta Api Maut is one example of tragedy because there are elements that characterize the tragedy as expressed by Aristotle and Japi Tambajong. The presence of a scene or a sad scene is included in it. Kereta Api Maut is a reflection of the Indonesian people when the country was once again occupied by the Dutch. The script of this drama opens with a soul sound that contains the spirit of nationalism of the fighters. They demand a revolution and opposed the very sadistic invaders to torture the Indonesian people.
