The article reveals the essence of national identity in the work of the Dniprova Chaika, as well as the reasons and factors under the influence of which the basic components of the national identity of the writer were fored. This study aims to reveal the author's position on the awareness of national and ethnic affiliation, attitude to the history and culture of their national and ethnic community, patriotic feelings and patriotic self-consciousness. Priority values, views, beliefs of the writer are demonstrated in various fields of activity such as cultural, artistic, socio-political and literary, which contributed to a comprehensive coverage of the problem.The analysis of the author's diverse genre heritage is carried out in line with the creation of the national specifics of Ukrainian literature of the late XIX — early XX centuries. The attention is focused on identifying the most characteristic features of the Ukrainian ethnos: mentality, national character, ethnopsychological features. The influence of folklore on the literary heritage of the writer, which is one of the key features of the cultural identity of Ukrainians, is analyzed. The systematic comparative analysis of works made it possible to identify national-specific features that determine the national identity of Ukrainian literature, as well the works of Dniprova Chaika in particular.
