One Thousand and One Nights is a collection of tales compiled in Arabic inIslamic golden age. Ratan Nath Sarshar was an Urdu novelist, from British Indiawho did the Urdu translation of One Thousand and One Nights from Englishversion. This Urdu translation known as Alif Laila was influenced by Muslimcivilization and culture of the subcontinent. Sarshar has used variety of linguistic words taken from Arabic, Farsi and Hindi.Linguistic analysis is the scientific analysis of a language. This analysis of AlifLaila is at Semantics, Syntax and Pragmatics level which examines the word andsentence taken from other language and introduced them in Urdu translation. AtPragmatics level, social use of language has been observed.
