The article is devoted to the work of V.S. Makanin. "The Underground, or a Hero of Our Time", which was published in 1999, was noticed by critics, but quickly faded into the shadows, could not stand the competition in the stream of books, publishing projects of Rossi, which stepped into the new millennium. But Makanin's prose remains a part of the literary process, the literary period of study, that is, it needs scientific understanding.
