M. en C. Alejandro Zárate Villafranco was born in Mexico City on August 11, 1960. He the second son of 9 brothers and sisters; his mother Aurelia Villafranco Santana, his father Francisco Zárate López. He completed his basic and middle education superior in Mexico City. In December 1991 he shared his life with Lucila Saavedra Escobedo; Hannia Valeria's first daughter was born in 1996 and Anette in 1999. In 1989 he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Biology from UNAM with the thesis "Conditions Environmental and its relationship with the distribution of tuna larvae in the Gulf of Mexico ZEEM and the Caribbean Sea ”. Since it is directed by Rosa María Olvera Limas, this will define his research area, since that he will work years later in the Ecology of ichthyoplankton. He worked for the National Institute of the Fishing in the "Tuna, Dolphin Program" from 1989-1997.
