A review of the chondrichthyan specimens housed in the Laboratorio de Ecología Collection of the Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biológicas (ENCB-IPN-LEM) was carried out. Activities included: 1) verifying the curatorial status and identity of the specimens, 2) a review of the field information, and 3) construction of a database. Currently, there are 371 specimens of 11 orders, 20 families, 32 genera and 56 species included in the collection. Higher taxonomic categories are well represented, unlike lower ones. Captures from 1940 to 1991 comprise 93 localities from all Mexican coastal states, plus one foreign locality. Specimens of Cephaluruscephalus and Isistius brasiliensis are relevant because of their infrequent capture and the generated information. Other specimens allow correcting and increasing geographic and descriptive information for Zapteryx xyster,Rhinobatos spinosus, R. productus and Carcharhinus isodon.
