Jean-Sylvain Bailly: «I know, sooner or later, you will be fair to me»

Французский политический деятель Жан-Сильвен Байи (1736–1793) получил известность не только как первый президент Учредительного собрания и мэр Парижа. Он был астрономом, глубина исследований которого простиралась на миллионы световых лет в астрономии и на тысячи — в истории. Два с половиной столетия назад Байи выдвинул гипотезу о зарождении астрономии в Центральной Азии. Тогда он не нашел единомышленников, но сейчас правоту астронома начинают подтверждать историки. The French politician Jean-Sylvain Bailly (1736–1793) became famous not only as the first president of the Constituent Assembly and mayor of Paris. He was an astronomer whose depth of research extended over millions of light-years in astronomy and thousands in history. Two and a half centuries ago, Bailly proposed a hypothesis about the origin of astronomy in Central Asia. Then he did not find like-minded people, but now historians begin to confirm the astronomer’s correctness.
