This article presents a reflection of the tendencies and fashions of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) of becoming smart universities or Smart campuses around the planet from the perspective of the Theory of Sociology of Digital Education of Chang (2017) that says that "it is the study of the formation, integration, interaction, production, reproduction and trends of the virtual behavior of the different individuals and groups in social networks and their impact in the real world to generate a true emancipation, growth and individual development and community with environmental sustainability.RESUMENEl presente artículo presenta una reflexión de las tendencias y modas de las Instituciones de Educación Superior (IES) de transformarse en universidades inteligentes o Smart campus alrededor del planeta desde la perspectiva de la Teoría de la Sociología de la Educación Digital de Chang (2017) que dice que “es el estudio de la formación, integración, interacción, producción, reproducción y tendencias del comportamiento virtual de los distintos individuos y colectivos en las redes sociales y su impacto en el mundo real para generar una verdadera emancipación, crecimiento y desarrollo individual y comunitario con sostenibilidad ambiental.
