Social and health care professionals’ generic competence – survey to registered and public health nursesThe aim of this study was to assess self-evaluated competence of nurses in delivering optimal services in social sector and primary health care. We assessed the relationship of on the job training to competence, too. To explore the competences of the nurses as an important professional group we constructed an electronic worksheet for nurses with statements about central issues in integrated customer service in social sector and public health care. Conclusions: Nurses mainly estimated their competences good in person-centred care approach. Better knowledge and ability of fitting various services together is needed as well as deeper understanding of the roles of other professionals. Continuous professional development at work needs to be secured. The nurses with little work experience should especially be included in the training.
