The article discusses the problem of introducing into rural life of Soviet family and public holidays and the displacement of church and traditional rituals conducted by the leading party and economic bodies in the 1960s in order to combat religious «vestiges». The main content of this activity was the development of scenarios and design of ceremonies and holidays, similar to traditional ones, but having a strictly civil character and Soviet ideological content. The result of this activity was the gradual weaning of the population from church and traditional holidays and rituals.
