The article discusses the gardening system of residents of the villages of the Uglovsky district, which was formed in the conditions of a harsh sharp continental climate and different types of soils. The formation of two forms of gardening in terms of growing potatoes — “dry” and “damp” gardens allowed villagers to adapt to natural conditions and receive high-quality crops.
