The main directions of the activities of Tobolsk Society for the Study of the Region, which operated in the 1920s, are considered. The society was not massive. The region’s intelligentsia constituted its main backbone. The structural units of the Society were natural-geographical, industrial-economic, cultural-historical, and other sections. Its branches functioned on the territory of the region. State policy at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s began to restrict the activities of local studies organizations which resulted in the the demise of the Society.
