The results of the study of the current state of the cognitive activity of students are presented, the main results of national and foreign scientists’ study of the content of the «cognitive activity of students» definition are considered. On the basis of the identified levels of activity: potential, real and realized, a technique has been developed for measuring the levels of students’ cognitive activity, which allows us to determine the dynamics of the students’ cognitive activity formation.
